Why won’t my PC boot with a new SSD installed?

I'm having trouble getting my PC to load when I add a new SATA SSD, specifically a Crucial MX500 250GB. The machine runs fine without it, but the screen just stays black when I try to boot with the MX500 connected. I've got a pretty old setup from the early 2010s, with a Gigabyte GA-B85-HD3 motherboard and a Samsung 870 Evo as my main SSD. I've tried several troubleshooting steps like using different SATA ports and cables, and even unplugging other drives, but nothing seems to work. Is there something I'm missing, or is it possible that the SSD is defective?

Double-check your power supply setup. Sometimes, if you have too many devices connected on one cable from the PSU, it can cause boot issues. Even though your PSU is rated for more, I had similar problems with budget models. Just a thought!

You might want to grab a SATA to USB adapter. They’re relatively cheap, around $9, and can help you check if the SSD is working without needing another PC. If the SSD has a dead short, that could definitely cause your system to not boot properly.
