Why won’t my PC connect to Ethernet after switching to a new modem?

Hey everyone, I recently switched my internet provider and got a new modem, which I installed in the same spot as my old one and connected to my home LAN network. Most devices are working fine, but my desktop PC isn't connecting to Ethernet at all. The Ethernet adapter doesn't recognize any connection when I plug in the cable, even though it works perfectly on my laptop. I've tried a different cable and port on the switch, reinstalled the Ethernet adapter driver with reboots in between, checked the BIOS to ensure the Ethernet adapter is enabled, and even reset the modem. I'm starting to wonder if it's a hardware issue with the adapter, but I can't figure out why it would malfunction right when I switched modems. Do you have any other suggestions or tests I could try to get the Ethernet working again? Feeling pretty stuck here!

Have you tested the USB-C Ethernet adapter with your laptop? If that works, it’s likely an issue with your desktop’s Ethernet hardware.

It might be worth checking your desktop’s network settings in case anything got changed during the modem switch. Sometimes a simple reset of the network settings can help resolve connection issues.

It sounds frustrating! One quick way to check if the problem is with your desktop's Ethernet port is to try using an external USB Ethernet adapter. You can find them for pretty cheap, and they can help you confirm whether the issue lies with your desktop's built-in adapter or not.
