Why won’t my Windows 11 laptop recognize any microphones?

I'm having trouble getting any microphones or headsets to be recognized by my Windows 11 laptop. No matter what I plug in, nothing shows up—only the built-in Microphone Array and 'stereo mix' appear in the recording tab. I've updated the audio drivers and tried deleting them, but Windows wouldn't let me. I even checked for disabled devices, but still nothing. No microphones show up in the Realtek Audio Console either. My laptop's built-in mic isn't reliable enough for my needs, so I'm looking for solutions.

Sounds like you're trying to use the mic through the headphone jack? Check for a symbol next to the jack—if it's just headphones, it won't support a microphone. I'd recommend getting a USB headset or mic instead if that's the case.

It has a headset symbol showing both headphones and a mic. Do you think using an adapter from the audio jack to USB might work instead of buying a new headset?
