Why Would Someone Want to Set Up a Server in My House?

I'm in a bit of a dilemma here. A friend of a friend (the husband of my girlfriend's friend) has asked if he can set up a server at my place. He runs a hacker business, and he mentioned he "needs more coverage," but I'm not really sure what that means. I feel it's risky and I wouldn't have control over it. Plus, I'm worried about potential liability and who wants to pay for the extra electricity that a server uses? Is there a valid reason someone would want to do this?

This request definitely raises a lot of red flags. The whole "needs more coverage" thing feels off. That doesn't really justify putting a server in a different location; it seems like he might be looking for some way to expand his operations without committing to proper backup solutions like cloud storage. Beware—this could lead to legal trouble for you.

Honestly, saying no is probably the best choice here. It sounds like a huge risk with no benefits for you. Why would you take on potential liabilities for someone you barely know? Just a bad idea all around.

Exactly! It's not just about liability; there's also the cost of increased electricity and potential noise from a server.
