Will Editing alsa-ucm-conf Affect Future Updates in Kubuntu?

I'm curious about how updates work in Kubuntu, especially when I've modified something like alsa-ucm-conf. If I manually change this file, will future updates override my changes, ask for permission, or just skip it altogether? For context, my audio wasn't functioning correctly with the older alsa-ucm-conf version in Kubuntu 25.04, so I fixed it by editing a text file with content from the alsa-ucm-conf GitHub repo. Now, I'm concerned about what happens when an official update comes through for alsa-ucm-conf. How can I ensure I receive the latest updates without being stuck with my temporary fix? Also, just to help others, if you're having audio issues with the MSI X870E Carbon motherboard in the latest Kubuntu, the fix involves following the GitHub instructions to update this configuration file, which isn't as intimidating as it sounds!

That makes sense! I guess I need to keep an eye on updates for alsa-ucm-conf on the Kubuntu side and clear out my version when necessary. It's strange how some updates take longer than others, especially for something that seems critical like audio support on certain motherboards!

When you upgrade via the terminal, it’ll alert you if your modified config file conflicts with the one from the package maintainer. Typically, it keeps your version by default. Most graphical update tools do the same. If you want to ensure you have the latest version of the configuration file, consider reinstalling alsa-ucm-conf after deleting your edited file.
