Will High Latency RAM Affect My Gaming Performance?

I found a Crucial Pro 2x24 GB RAM kit running at 5600MHz CL46 for just $100. I'm using a 7800x3D CPU and an RTX 5080 GPU, mainly for single-player gaming at 1440P ultra settings and some light web browsing. I'm wondering how much of a performance hit I might take compared to a 6000MHz CL30 kit, considering that my RAM operates at 1.1 volts. Should I try to tweak the settings to lower the latency? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

It seems like you’ll be okay! I have a similar Crucial Pro set running at 6000MHz CL42, and it’s been solid. You might want to experiment with the speeds to see if you can get any boosts.

That RAM kit doesn’t seem great, but it should work fine for gaming. Since the x3D processor is less dependent on RAM speed, you probably won’t notice a big difference in performance. You could always try overclocking it to see if you can improve the latency a bit.

Honestly, spending $600 on a CL30 kit isn’t worth it for what you’ll be playing. Your setup should handle it all with the RAM you have. Don’t stress about it too much; just enjoy your new RAM!

Good news is that RAM rarely has a significant impact on gaming performance unless you’re running benchmarks. Your 5600MHz CL46 might not be optimal, but it’s not a deal-breaker. Worst case, you might see a small single-digit FPS drop. If you're into tinkering, feel free to overclock a bit! There’s a thread I found that provides some insights on overclocking similar RAM, check it out if you're interested.

You’re looking at something slightly better than DDR4 speeds, which is a plus. If you feel comfortable with some tweaks, I suggest giving overclocking a shot using tools like ZenTimings. It might pay off!
