I recently created a few EC2 instances while I was learning AWS, but I ended up just stopping them instead of terminating them. I noticed that I've been charged about $1.60 each month since November 2024, and just saw these charges on my credit card statement today. I've terminated the instances now, but I'm wondering if I can get a refund if I reach out to customer service. Also, does anyone know how to contact AWS billing support, like an email or phone number?

Hey! It sounds like you might have a shot at getting a refund. AWS can sometimes wave charges, especially for students. Just reach out to their support team – you can create a case in the Support Center. They’re generally understanding about these things, so it’s worth a try!
I wouldn’t count on a refund for that small amount, but definitely reach out to support! They've been known to be lenient with students. Just be clear about your situation and you might be lucky. Plus, learning Docker for future projects might save you some 💰!
Keep in mind that you’re charged for resources you create, including storage, even when instances are stopped. So, if those instances had associated EBS volumes or any other resources, that could be where the charges are coming from. Double-check your billing details to see exactly what you're being charged for.
Don’t forget to monitor your credit card statements! It's important to catch these charges sooner. As for the refund, it's likely not guaranteed, but since it wasn't a huge amount, they may look kindly on your request if you explain that it was a learning experience.
