Hey everyone! I'm looking for some advice. I currently have a Ryzen 5 9600X paired with my ASRock B650M Pro RS motherboard, and while it's been great, I'm starting to feel its limits, especially gaming at 1440p. I'm considering upgrading to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but I'm worried about the VRM section of my motherboard. I've seen mixed opinions online—some folks say any B650 board will work just fine, while others warn that a board with 12 VRMs is crucial to avoid risks. ASRock lists the specs as 8+2+1 with 50A Dr.MOS. From what I can calculate, it seems adequate, but I still have my doubts. I don't plan on overclocking, just using it for gaming. Also, I've heard that ASRock has had some issues with the 9800X3D, but I've done my BIOS updates, and mine is currently at version 3.20, which should be fine. Since I don't want to switch motherboards due to budget constraints, I'd appreciate your thoughts!

If you don't plan on overclocking, you're probably fine regarding the VRMs. Just remember that having the latest BIOS doesn’t guarantee your CPU won’t run into problems. I had my 9800X3D running smoothly until it unexpectedly died on me, and I was up to date on everything.
It's good that you’re updated to BIOS 3.20! Many users have faced issues with even the latest BIOS versions, so just be careful. I ran mine for a while without overclocking too, but my CPU still bricked. Make sure you monitor temperatures and performance closely.
The ASRock B650M Pro RS is capable of handling some seriously demanding CPUs, including the Ryzen 9 7950X, so the 9800X3D should be perfectly fine with it. Just keep an eye on the updates because there have been some issues reported with ASRock boards and X3D chips in the past, but overall you should be alright.

Yeah, it's not just X3D chips—there have been reports across multiple AM5 CPUs. Just stay cautious!
