I recently saw a video where someone got locked out of their PC after swapping their CPU, and it's got me worried. If I decide to upgrade my CPU without changing the motherboard, what are the chances of getting locked out? I'm currently using a Windows OEM key that I bought when I built my PC. Any advice would be appreciated!

Make sure you're logged into a Microsoft account. I had some trouble after I upgraded my motherboard where it said my key was invalid. All I had to do was verify it was me and notify them about the hardware change. Sometimes, prebuilt PCs can lock out if you swap components, especially with AMD chips. My Lenovo Intel setup has been smooth with upgrades, but I've heard mixed things about AMD and Lenovo setups.
You should be fine! Just remember to update your BIOS before making the swap. Also, it’s a good idea to back up everything important, just in case.
If you have BitLocker enabled, don’t forget to have your recovery keys handy. The decryption key is stored in the TPM, which is linked to your old CPU. If you swap CPUs without having those keys, you might not be able to access your data. Licensing can also be a bit tricky, so keep that in mind!
If you're worried about your Windows activation, just copy your old key; it should work when you install everything again. They even have apps that can help with that!
