I haven't touched any Apple products since 2014, but I just received an unexpected email from Apple stating someone logged into my old Apple ID from a phone that isn't mine. After trying to log in and guessing a few wrong passwords, I had to use the "I forgot my password" option. Unfortunately, I got messages saying "access to your account has been denied" and that "this account is locked and can't be used." Does this mean that my old Apple ID is now completely locked down and unusable by both me and whoever tried to access it? That's what I'm hoping for!

Do you still have access to the same phone number linked to the Apple ID? If not, you're out of luck. If you do, contacting Apple Support can help, but it’s good if you want that ID to remain inactive, just know the options are there.
How did you navigate to the Apple site? Did you click on a link in the email, or did you go directly to the site? If you clicked a link, it might have been a phishing attempt!
I went to the site on my own—I didn't click any links in the email.
Yep, it sounds like your Apple ID is indeed locked up tight. That means nobody, including the hacker, can sign in to that account anymore. So it seems like you’ve achieved your goal of bricking it!
Sweeeeeeeeeeeet.
I actually want it to remain bricked forever. I don't use Apple at all and don't want someone else using my old ID.
