I'm feeling overwhelmed in my first frontend dev job, especially since it's remote. I previously worked freelance, so this is all new to me. We have various resources like Figma designs, API specifications, and diagrams, but much of our communication is verbal, and it often leaves me confused.
During our planning meetings, we discuss tasks, estimate time, and divide the work, but sometimes the API doesn't match the design, and changes are made without any documentation. This leads to me forgetting comments or misinterpreting tasks. I have auditory processing challenges and a shaky memory, making the lack of thorough documentation really tough. Shouldn't there be written records for all these discussions? Is it just me feeling this way, or is poor documentation a common issue in remote work?

We have a system where all client tasks are detailed in a CRM, complete with notes. It makes everything clearer and keeps everyone aligned. Verbal agreements can be tough, especially without written guidance!
What you’re experiencing is quite common! But seriously, no notes from meetings? Most teams jot down quick notes during discussions and share them via tools like Slack or WhatsApp so everyone stays informed. It really helps everyone be on the same page!
Absolutely! Relying on individual notes seems risky—it'd be smarter to have a shared doc for clarity.
You mentioned auditory processing issues. Would it be possible for you to handle task updates with the information from the meetings? If not, maybe suggest that someone else take notes? Ownership can make processing conversations easier!
You could try an automated tool like Otter for note-taking, especially if you find it hard to keep track of everything in meetings.
Miscommunication happens all the time, especially in frontend dev. It’s our job to sift through and create what the client wants, but having a solid point of reference would be super helpful. Try to get involved in those discussions to really grasp what’s needed!
We do something similar too, but I still think more detailed descriptions would help immensely!
