Can My TV or Alexa Really Pick Up Audio from My Headphones?

So, my parents are insisting that they can hear audio from my PC while I'm gaming, even though I'm not using any speakers or a microphone. The PC is upstairs, and they can't hear sound from consoles or videos unless it's really loud. It's odd because I'm wondering how they could be picking up sound from that distance and angle. Am I just being gaslit, or is it possible that the TV or an Alexa could be picking up wireless audio somehow? I'm curious if anyone has experienced something similar. Also, I'm going to test it out and see if I can replicate the issue, as someone suggested there might be a wire acting as an antenna.

Just a heads up, newer Bluetooth headphones can connect to multiple devices. If that's happening with your Alexa or TV, they might be picking up some audio that way. It’s something to consider while troubleshooting this mystery!

You could try gaming without any sound and see if they still claim to hear you. If they do, it’s possible they might be misinterpreting other noises around them. It’s also possible they are just using their powers of selective hearing, LOL!

I've done something similar, played games with no audio, and they still asked what I was doing. Definitely strange!

In today’s tech world, it’s unlikely that a TV or Alexa could pick up information from your headphones directly. However, if your headphones are too loud, sound could be bouncing around through the house. Have they noticed any noise when you're just browsing without audio? It’s possible the sound might just be more detectable if they’re in a quiet environment.

That’s what confuses me—when I blast YouTube videos with max volume, they still don’t hear anything, so who knows!

You might want to ask them to show you where they're hearing the sound. Play something that makes noise without your input and see if they can pinpoint the source. Sometimes, sounds from neighbors can be misinterpreted, especially if your house isn't entirely isolated.

Good idea! I should test that out and see what they say.

It's worth checking the volume on your headphones. If it’s too loud, it might carry through ducts or even the walls. In the past, I had sound travel weirdly through the ductwork in my house, so it's definitely possible. Try playing something softly with your headphones and see if the sound travels—weird acoustics can create some surprising routes for sound.

I usually keep it pretty quiet. One person mentioned it might be a cable acting as an antenna, which makes me think!
