I've recently switched to Ubuntu from Windows 11, though I'm still dual booting for now. I'm still getting used to the Ubuntu environment, but I have a question about using WiFi and the hotspot feature at the same time. My university's WiFi requires a login, and since they only allow one device per student, I want to connect my laptop to the university's WiFi and then share that connection by creating a hotspot for my phone. I've tried using the WiFi hotspot app, but it won't activate the WiFi while the hotspot is turned on. Any advice or methods to achieve this would be greatly appreciated! Additionally, I'm open to any tips for new Ubuntu users. Thanks! By the way, my laptop model is a Lenovo Ideapad Slim 3i i7.

Have you thought about connecting your phone to the university's WiFi instead? That way, your laptop can share the hotspot. Most phones can either connect to WiFi or act as a hotspot, but not both at the same time. Just a thought!
The ability to use both WiFi and hotspot at the same time can depend on your WiFi card's capabilities and the drivers. Some cards support it, while others don't. Also, check if the drivers you're using require specific configurations for simultaneous connections. Make sure to look up what kind of WiFi card you have and whether it can handle that function properly. You might find help here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Software_access_point.

Unfortunately, my phone can't do both either. It looks like my laptop should be able to handle it with Ubuntu, but I can't figure out why it's not working.
