Can I use my wired headphones on both my laptop and phone without damaging them?

I've heard some concerns that switching my wired headphones between my laptop and phone could damage them or lead to one earbud not working anymore. Is this true? I only have one pair of headphones, and I want to avoid any issues. Is it safe to use them on both devices occasionally? I'm pretty new to this, so any advice would be appreciated!

Nope, that's a common myth! As long as you're careful when unplugging them, you should be fine switching between your laptop and phone without any damage to your headphones. Just avoid yanking them out by the cord, and you’re good to go!

So it’s really not an issue using them on both devices one after the other?

Thanks for the reassurance! That's a relief.

While headphones can wear out over time, switching them between devices isn’t going to ruin them. It's important to keep the plug clean since dust and buildup can cause issues. I recommend using a contact cleaner to keep the jacks in good shape; products like WD40's contact cleaner or isopropyl alcohol work great for this!

Yeah, it's usually dust that causes most audio connection problems.
