Why is my PC so loud after upgrading to a 5800XT?

I recently upgraded my PC from a 5600G with a 7800XT to a 5800XT. Ever since I made this change, I've noticed that my PC has become really loud, even when I'm not doing anything demanding. I'm still using the stock cooler that came with the CPU. Is this just me overreacting because the 5600G was quieter, or is there something I should be concerned about?

Since your new setup generates more heat, your cooler has to put in extra work to keep it cool. If the temperatures are stable and not causing any issues, you might just have to live with the noise for now. But, if it gets bothersome, consider investing in an aftermarket air cooler, which should be more than enough for your needs.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll keep an eye on the temperatures.

Totally agree! My old build had a 5800X too, and it was loud when gaming, but it never caused any real problems.

I definitely recommend getting an aftermarket cooler! The 5800XT runs hotter than the 5600G, so you'll want something that can handle the extra heat better. There are some great low-cost options out there like the Cooler Master Hyper 212, which many find reliable. You'll be surprised at the difference it can make in both performance and noise levels.

Haha, I remember the Hyper 212! It's wild to see they still have it. I might just grab one.

Consider running your 5800XT at lower settings, like those of a 5700X, or even undervolt it. You can find great guides for this. It helps significantly with heat reduction, which might help quiet things down.

Make sure to monitor the temperatures when your PC is idle. If they're normal but the fan is still loud, it could just be a fan speed issue. Check the fan curves; it might be running at max speed unnecessarily.

I did notice there's a couple of cords from the fan that I didn't connect; should I look into those?

I hear you! My fan was super loud until I figured out the curve was all messed up. It's weird how it can change over time.

It sounds like the stock cooler might be struggling a bit, especially if it's the one that came with the 5800XT. Since the 5800XT generates more heat than the 5600G, the fan may just be running at max speed to keep things cool. You might want to check the thermal paste as well if you didn't reapply it during the switch. An aftermarket cooler like the Thermalright Phantom Spirit is relatively cheap and could run much quieter.

Yeah, I definitely think it's the stock cooler making all that noise.

I did use the thermal paste that came with the fan, but I didn't switch it out. Could that be the issue?
