Should I Upgrade My Motherboard Instead of Going AM5 for Now?

I'm currently using a Ryzen 5600G with a build that includes 16GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM at 3600MHz, an MSI Tomahawk B450 Max II motherboard, 1 NVMe SSD, 2 SATA SSDs, 2 HDDs, a WiFi card, a 550W PSU, and an RTX 3060 Ti. Lately, I've been facing issues where my B450 chipset seems overwhelmed. It's failing to recognize my HDDs, and one of my SATA SSDs disconnects frequently. Moreover, I'm stuck running my RAM at 2933MHz instead of its rated 3600MHz due to this motherboard. I'm considering changing to a new motherboard because I think the B450 is the root cause of these issues. My initial thought was to upgrade to an AM5 setup with a 7600X and 32GB RAM, but the recent RAM price surge has made that option unattractive for now. Instead, I'm thinking about getting a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 or B550 Gaming X V2, keeping my 16GB RAM (possibly overclocking it), and replacing my 5600G with a 5700X3D when I upgrade. I'd like to hear your thoughts on whether this is a sensible plan or if I should explore other options.

No offense, but it sounds like you’re misunderstanding your setup a bit. Your chipset isn’t likely the issue here, especially since you can't really overload your PCIe lanes. Have you checked the health of your drives?

If you’re thinking long-term, getting an AM5 could be the best way to future-proof your build. The RAM prices are concerning, but consider whether you want to invest now or wait and see if they drop again.

I recommend buying a new motherboard and just setting it up temporarily outside your case. Once you do that, check if your drives still disconnect. If they do, then you can look into other issues or maybe even check the drives themselves.

Honestly, your motherboard should be fine for now. You might want to try grabbing a 5800XT and see if you can overclock that. Replacing the motherboard could be a waste of money at this point.
