I'm planning to switch from Windows to Linux Mint and I want to make sure I prepare properly. Should I save my Windows product key before I switch? Also, do I need to manually back up my game data, for example, my progress in Euro Truck Simulator 2? Thanks for any advice!

For your games like Euro Truck Simulator 2, check ProtonDB to see if they're compatible with Linux. If it has cloud saves, you're in luck! Just install the game on Mint and everything should transfer. If it doesn't, you might need to manually find the save game location, which can be a bit tricky.

Mint is pretty beginner-friendly, but you'll still need to use the terminal for some things, especially if you're installing drivers, like Nvidia graphics. Just be prepared to dive in a little! Also, keep an eye out for any important files you might want to backup before wiping everything.

Your Windows product key is tied to your hardware or Microsoft account, so you might not need to worry about that if you're connected. However, make sure to back up any files you want to keep because switching to Mint will wipe your drive. As for Euro Truck Simulator 2, if you got it via Steam, check if it has cloud saving features; it should auto-download your progress after installation on Mint.

Before making the switch, definitely back up any important files. If you're using a laptop or an OEM system like HP or Dell, and you've logged into a Microsoft account, the key might be saved already. It's a good idea to take a photo of it just in case.
