Choosing the Best Azure Datacenter in Europe

I'm looking for guidance on selecting an Azure datacenter for my new Landing Zone. I understand that Microsoft advises using the closest region and ensuring compliance with company regulations, but I'm unsure if that's the only factor to consider. I've heard that some regions, like West Europe and North Europe, are congested, while others might be more cost-effective or have advanced capabilities, such as AI products available in newer regions like Sweden. Can anyone share insights on the capabilities of Azure's datacenters in Europe? Is region selection the most crucial step when choosing a datacenter? By the way, I'm based in France. Thanks!

Germany West Central comes highly recommended for those transitioning from West Europe. For you, checking out France Central seems wise. Just steer clear of West and North Europe. Additionally, think about how to design your workloads to be flexible, as you might need to migrate in the future.

Belgium Central is a newer option and might have more availability. It's definitely worth considering!

Avoid placing anything in West or North Europe, as those regions are running at full capacity. Sweden Central is looking good, and France Central has been stable without capacity issues. I'd recommend starting there!

You can find a comprehensive breakdown of services available in each Azure region at the Azure global infrastructure page. Usually, your business needs will also help guide your choice on where to deploy your services.

We've been using Germany West Cloud for a while without any issues. The availability has been solid, and there haven't been any major outages in the past two years. Just keep in mind that UK South is facing some constraints now.
