Looking for the Best Linux Distro for Daily Use

Hi everyone! I'm not coming from a programming background, but I've been immersed in tech since I was a kid. Recently, I've started exploring Linux more because I'm not feeling secure with Windows anymore, especially with all the AI features they've been adding. I really miss the customization I used to enjoy and I'm all about free and open-source software along with privacy.

I'm looking for a Linux distribution that I can use for my daily tasks. My system specs include an AMD Ryzen 7 8-core processor, an NVIDIA graphics card with 8 GB, 1 TB of storage, and 64 GB of RAM.

I often work with Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, Zbrush, Blender, Maya, Substance Painter, and Houdini. Besides that, I regularly handle spreadsheets, documents, and various web-based office work. I also play a lot of Steam games, watch YouTube, and use VLC for music. And yes, I'm one of those people who hoard a ton of tabs!

I ran the 'Distro chooser' quiz and it suggested openSuse, Zorin OS, Linux Mint, and elementary OS as the top options. So far, I've read a bit about elementary OS and Linux Mint, and they both look promising, but I'm still exploring since the options are overwhelming. I'm also a bit curious about Fedora and Bazzite; Fedora seems like it has a lot of flexibility while Bazzite is geared towards gamers, but I'm not sure how effective it actually is.

Thanks for reading! I appreciate any thoughts or advice you might have!

You might want to check out the distro selection page for more guidance! And remember to back up your files regularly, experiment in a virtual machine, and be sure you understand any commands before executing them!

I don't have a specific distro recommendation, but I suggest narrowing your choices based on compatibility with the software you want to use. For instance, Adobe Photoshop isn't available on Linux, so you'll need to consider alternatives or workarounds like Wine, but that could lead to stability issues.

Good point! I read about Wine and other tools to help with compatibility, so I'll look deeper into that. Thanks!

I’m partial to Debian and its variations, but Linux Mint is fantastic too!

Since you're coming from Windows, consider starting with a distro that has a familiar interface, like Linux Mint or Zorin OS. This way, you won't feel overwhelmed by a completely different environment. Once you're comfortable, feel free to try exploring other distros and setups!

Given your list, I'd personally go with Mint. It's user-friendly and reliable, just like Kubuntu. Plus, when you try out different OSes, pay attention to the desktop environment too—everyone has their favorites! Best of luck on your Linux journey!

Any distro with KDE Plasma or Cinnamon would work well for you. Opting for a stable version rather than a rolling release would be wise. So, Mint or the KDE version of Fedora might suit you perfectly.

Have you considered Arch? It might be a bit of a learning curve but very rewarding!

You should definitely try any distro that catches your interest! You're not locked in, so feel free to jump around. I went through a few distros before settling on Bazzite, and it fits my needs perfectly!

True! I want to stick to one for a bit, but keeping an open mind sounds wise. Bazzite looks great because of its ease with Waydroid, but I heard it might not work with my hardware.
