Hey everyone! I'm getting a new laptop soon and I want to install Linux on it to explore and tinker around with. Since I already have a desktop PC with Windows, I'm looking for a Linux distro that offers great customization options and is user-friendly while also being futureproof. I'd prefer not to switch distros every few months if I can help it. Any recommendations?

It might help to narrow down your needs a bit. What kind of customization are you looking for? Do you prefer a Windows-like environment, something more macOS-inspired, or even mixing a bit of both?
Make sure to explore the migration resources online for more help! Also, take Smokey’s advice – only use root when you need to, and avoid third-party repos if you can!
If you want fewer updates and don't mind a few older drivers, I'd suggest Ubuntu or Mint with a KDE desktop. But if you're okay with more frequent updates and want up-to-date software, EndeavourOS or Fedora with KDE might be right for you.
I like the sound of that! But I'm torn since I want it to feel like my own, and those constant updates may be a bit much.

If you're open to exploring, I’ve been considering Zorin OS. I heard it's great for newcomers and has a familiar layout for those coming from Windows.
I want something with a strong open-source community so I can find custom options easily. I’d love to make it functional for some indie games and also have a good UI for media playback!
