How can I help my mom switch from Yahoo Mail to Gmail without losing her emails?

My mom has been using Yahoo Mail, but she finds the interface frustrating and it's lacking in useful sorting options. She does have a Gmail account, but it's mostly just a secondary one at this point. Everyone she knows uses her Yahoo account, and most of her services and contacts are linked to it. I'm looking for the best way to transition her to Gmail without losing any of her existing emails or causing disruption.

I'm considering two main steps:
1. **Importing her existing Yahoo Mail** into Gmail via the settings under 'Accounts and Import'.
2. Setting up **auto-forwarding** from Yahoo to Gmail so that any future emails go directly to her new Inbox.

Is this the right approach? Am I overlooking anything important? I'd appreciate any tips or suggestions without any mentions of Proton Mail, as she needs something straightforward that works for her.

Setting up mail forwarding is a solid choice! It will help her get her new Gmail Inbox sorted without missing important messages right away. Just be careful with the import process from Yahoo, since some emails and attachments might not transfer perfectly due to Yahoo's export format.

If your mom isn’t very tech-savvy, a mail client like Thunderbird could be worth considering. But I totally get that she might prefer using her phone and keeping it simple. Importing emails and forwarding might just be the best path forward for her!

Right? My mom's not going to want to deal with a whole new app. We need to stick with what's familiar for her.
