I'm looking to switch to Linux on my ThinkPad T480 laptop, which has an i5 processor, integrated graphics, 16GB of RAM (upgraded from 8GB), and 256GB of storage. I've replaced the external battery recently, but the internal one is getting older. I have some experience with Linux from working with Raspberry Pi projects and a container my friend set up. I'm also seeking recommendations for a user-friendly Linux distribution to get started with.

Linux Mint is a fantastic choice for beginners. You can check it out [here](https://www.linuxmint.com).
Absolutely! The T480 has great Linux support and should run smoothly. I'd recommend starting with something stable like Debian or OpenSUSE Leap; you really can't go wrong with those.
Debian sounds promising! I'm used to LibreOffice, but I have concerns about gaming compatibility. I've had some older games stop working after a Windows update, so I'm hoping I can use Wine to get them running on Linux.
Go for it! I love using Manjaro—it’s super up-to-date compared to others like Debian, which is great for security. Plus, it supports GNOME, which I know you like!
I heard Manjaro gets updated more frequently than Debian. That could be a plus for me!
Definitely install Linux! It's a solid move. For something more tailored to your needs, consider Mint or Fedora based on what you prefer in a desktop environment. And if your external battery is new, you should still get great battery life!
Both Mint and Fedora look great. I might start with Mint and then try others to see how they differ. Plus, I have some basic experience with Debian if I need to.

I like the look of Linux Mint too, especially since I prefer the GNOME desktop environment over the default layout.
