He sounds like he is ranting and swearing, almost as if he is having a conversation with us, but I never called anyone and don't remember a television or other audio playing. We live in the country, so I'm wondering whether another nearby device, a phone playing audio, or some kind of radio or outside signal could explain it. How could this happen?

Try listening with headphones and note whether the voice sounds close to the watch, outside, or like it is coming from a speaker. Repeat the test with the watch in the same location while turning off nearby phones and Bluetooth devices. Also check whether the file was imported or edited, since a normal microphone recording should not suddenly add a remote conversation on its own.
Pay attention to whether the unknown voice overlaps the kitchen sounds or completely replaces them. If the pots, pans, and conversation continue underneath it, the voice may have been played from a nearby speaker or captured acoustically.
