Whichever service you choose, enable two-factor authentication and keep a separate recovery address or recovery method.

A personal domain can be a good long-term move because your address stays the same even if you change email providers. You can use Outlook on Windows or mobile with many hosted email services, so you don’t have to use the provider’s webmail interface. The main tradeoffs are paying an annual domain and mailbox fee, keeping payment details current, and making sure the domain registration and email service don’t accidentally expire.

IONOS is an established provider, and people commonly use it for both domain registration and hosted email. Their business email plans are inexpensive and can generally be configured in Outlook without advertising. I’d still compare renewal prices, storage limits, spam filtering, backup options, and how easy it is to transfer the domain elsewhere before signing up.

You don’t necessarily need to abandon Gmail just because you prefer Outlook. Gmail accounts can be added to Outlook, allowing you to use Outlook as the day-to-day application while keeping Gmail’s underlying service. That may be the simplest option if you want fewer accounts and don’t mind keeping a Gmail address.
