Should I Upgrade from an RX 7900 XT to an RTX 5080 Now or Wait?

Before spending that much, make sure the 5080 actually solves a problem you have. What resolution, frame rate, and ray-tracing performance are you targeting? If your 7900 XT already handles your games well, the upgrade may feel more like chasing new features than getting a major overall improvement.

If you’ve already decided that you want the upgrade and found a reasonable price, buying sooner may make sense. GPU prices don’t seem likely to drop significantly in the near future, and seasonal demand could push them higher.

A recent example suggests prices can rise: one 5070 Ti model that sold for £815 a few months ago was later listed at £999. That doesn’t guarantee the same thing will happen with the 5080, but if you find one at a good price and genuinely want the features, buying now is defensible.

It’s your money, so don’t feel obligated to justify the upgrade to everyone else. That said, compare prices across different manufacturers and retailers before buying. Some models offer essentially the same performance for less, and brands such as Gigabyte can be worth considering.

I’d personally avoid upgrading unless you specifically need DLSS or better ray tracing. The 5080 may be faster in those areas, but the price premium can be difficult to justify when you already own a high-end 7900 XT. Waiting for a genuinely better deal or a more substantial generational jump could be wiser.
