Hey all! I'm planning to build my first PC, and I'm a bit overwhelmed! I'm currently a senior in high school, getting ready for college next year, and I want to use this PC for both my biochemistry studies and some gaming fun. Here's what I'm considering so far:
- GPU: RTX 5080
- CPU: 9800x3d
- Cooler: Arctic Liquid Freezer III Pro
- Motherboard: Gigabyte X870 AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ICE ATX AM5
- RAM: Patriot Viper 5 2x 24GB DDR5 8000 CL38
- Storage: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB
- Case: Corsair 3500X ARGB ATX Mid Tower
- PSU: be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000W 80+ Titanium Certified
- OS: Windows 11
- Monitor: Asus ROG Swift OLED PG27UCDM 26.5"
I'd really appreciate any suggestions for alternative parts since I'm not an expert. Also, if anyone has recommendations for a mouse and keyboard that aren't too pricey, that would help a lot! Thanks!

Don’t forget about waiting for Black Friday or Cyber Monday to grab some deals on these parts. You might save a bit of cash that way, which would help out since building a PC can get expensive fast! Good luck with your build!
I swapped in the 9900x for consideration. It performs similarly to the 9800x3d in single-core tasks and better in multi-core, plus it’s more affordable. Also, the 990 EVO Plus is very reliable and can save you some bucks over the Pro. If you want to check an alternative case, the Lian Li chassis is pretty nice and affordable right now! I suggest going with a B850 motherboard instead of the X870 unless you really need USB 4.0. Also, that power supply is a bit overkill for your needs. For the RAM, 8000MT is still a bit of a gamble with AM5; it works great for some but not for everyone. Additionally, consider 2x32GB RAM instead of 2x24GB for better value! By the way, will your biochem coursework require heavy computing, or just basic tasks? You might find that you don’t need such a high-end setup for writing papers and basic studies. Thanks for the tips! I'm really unsure right now about my college's demands, but I know RAM is crucial for stuff like MD simulations.

Thanks for your input! I'll consider your suggestions but I think I'll stick with the 9800x3d as it seems better for gaming. I’ll also look into the 990 EVO Plus!
