Advice on Connecting PSU Cables for New GPU

I'm picking up a 5080 this week, which I believe requires a single 12-pin connector. Currently, I have a 3070 Ti that uses two 8-pin connectors. I'm planning to connect these two 8-pin connectors using an adapter cable that came with the GPU box.

My main concern is whether it's safe to have both 8-pin connectors running from one VGA port on my PSU (an EVGA 850+ Bronze). After some research, I've found conflicting opinions about this setup. Should I look for a new PSU cable that connects to two VGA ports and ends with a 12-pin connector? I found a CORSAIR sleeved cable at Best Buy, but I'm worried about using a cable from a different brand. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

Definitely keep in mind that the 5080 adapter needs at least three 8-pin connections. It's not just about the connectors but also the quality of the cables. Using cables from different brands can cause issues since they're often not universally compatible. In fact, while your PSU is only three years old, it might be worth considering a new one altogether since you’re investing a lot in a high-end GPU. Don't risk it using old cables!

I get that, but if I can't use other brand cables, would it still be safe to use a single VGA PSU cable that splits into two 8-pin connectors for the 5080?

The 5080 actually requires three 8-pin PCIe power connectors. While two can share a cable, it's essential to have at least two separate cables to ensure enough power. So, yes, you're going to need a new cable setup regardless.
