Are Suspicious Ads on YouTube Common?

Lately, I've been seeing a sponsored ad on my YouTube homepage on my phone for an app that claims to enhance PDF files. There's a small message underneath that talks about an "outdated version of the app" and suggests clearing my phone. I haven't clicked on it due to concerns it might be malware or adware. I try to keep my phone secure and avoid shady websites. Is this ad appearing because there's a real problem with my phone? And is it typical to see scammy ads like this on YouTube? I don't recall seeing ads like this before.

That ad is most likely just a sketchy advertisement trying to scare you into downloading a malicious app. It's a common tactic; they create fake warnings about problems with your device to prompt you to install something harmful. You should never receive alerts about issues from ads; those only come from legitimate notifications on your phone. Just be cautious and don’t click on any suspicious ads you see!

Thanks for clarifying! That makes me feel better. I did a scan just in case. Does that mean it's normal for YouTube to have ads like this sometimes?
