I'm evaluating the performance of a couple of laptop models being used in our office and home environments. The first model has an Intel Core Ultra 7 268V vPro processor, 32GB of LPDDR5x memory, and 512GB of TLC SSD storage. It also features integrated Intel Arc graphics and a 13.3-inch FHD+ display. The second model is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 165U vPro, also with 32GB memory and a 512GB SSD, but has a 13.3-inch FHD screen without touch capability. Both models run Windows 11 Pro. However, some users are encountering issues with file explorer freezing when sorting files by size on a file server, and Excel is lagging with macro-enabled files ranging from 1MB to 68MB while connected via VPN and even in the office. I'm looking for advice on higher specs or solutions to enhance performance to avoid these problems. Any suggestions?

Honestly, those specs should be more than sufficient for typical office tasks. The issues you're seeing are likely due to either the file server's performance or VPN connectivity problems, especially since users have reported lag while sorting files.
If those Excel files are complex with macros, especially the 68MB one, that could definitely contribute to slowness. Maybe try optimizing the macros or simplifying the files. Large, outdated macros can really slow down performance!
True! They tend to overload those files with formulas. I'll definitely look into that to see how we can streamline things.
It sounds like a connection issue rather than a hardware one. If you haven't already, try having users copy the files locally to see if performance improves. Sometimes the network latency through VPNs can really drag down speeds, especially with larger files.
Great point! I’ll have them test that out to compare speeds locally. Thank you!

Got it. I’ll check the VPN connection and the file server's capabilities first. Thanks for the insight!
