I'm looking for recommendations on which AM4 socket CPU to pair with my 9070 XT for smooth 1440p gaming. Given the current prices of RAM, any suggestions would be appreciated!

I'd say go with the 5600 or higher. Just a tip though, avoid the 5700 and 5500 models; they're not worth it.
You should definitely consider the 5700X or 5800X if you're looking at AM4 options!
Intel's LGA 1700 is a solid choice as well, compatible with both DDR4 and DDR5. The 5700X3D or 5800X3D would be your best bet if you can find them. If not, the 5700X or 5600X are decent alternatives, though not as exciting anymore. Also, check out Intel's 12600K(F), 12700K(F), and newer models; they stack up pretty well against AMD.
If you can get your hands on a 5700X3D or 5800X3D at MSRP, those would be awesome choices. If they're hard to find, I'd recommend the 5800X if you aren't planning a major upgrade for a while.
If you're starting from scratch, you might want to look into LGA 1700 instead of sticking with AM4. It's got better performance overall.
