Best Linux Distro for Beginners Who Want to Game

I'm looking to switch to a Linux distribution because I'm fed up with Windows, and I'm eager to learn Linux. I'm also interested in starting a journey into cybersecurity, but gaming with friends is important too. I have some technical skills—I can typically troubleshoot PC issues on my own with a bit of guidance. However, I'm new to Linux and worry about getting overwhelmed. What Linux distro would you recommend for my needs? Here are my specifications: Ryzen 5 5600, RX 6700 XT, 32 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, 1 TB HDD, and 256 GB SSD.

If you want a gaming-ready distro straight out of the box, try PikaOS. For a more customizable experience, Debian is great, but if you're looking for something user-friendly, Linux Mint is often the go-to for beginners. Kubuntu and Pop!_OS are also solid alternatives to Mint.

For a straightforward setup, OpenSUSE Slowroll is quite user-friendly. If you're keen to learn, Slackware might be your best bet, but for a smoother experience, Linux Mint takes the cake.

Many suggest Linux Mint for beginners since it offers a smooth transition from Windows. Plus, you’ll have tons of Ubuntu resources if you hit any snags. And if you're diving into cybersecurity, you might want to explore Kali Linux, although I wouldn’t advise using it as your main OS. You could run it from a USB for practice instead. Arch Linux is another option if you wish to learn deeply about the OS.

I'm aware of Kali, but starting with Linux in general feels daunting, so I'm hesitant.

Honestly, Kali isn’t the best for daily use. Most of its tools can be set up on Ubuntu to avoid the hassle.

Just a heads up, switching to Linux is quite different from using Windows, especially with how package management works. Don't get too caught up in old habits from Windows! Just take your time to learn the ropes.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely need to adjust my mindset.

What games do you plan on playing with your friends? It might help to choose a distro based on that.

I'm looking at playing CS2, Dying Light, and maybe some Euro Truck Simulator 2.
