Hey everyone! I recently got my hands on a 12-year-old Dell laptop that's struggling to keep up with Windows. I'm thinking about formatting it and trying out a Linux distribution but I'm not sure which one to go for. Here are the specs: i5-3337U 1.8GHz, 8GB DDR3, and a 1TB HDD with Intel HD Graphics 4000. I want something lightweight that runs smoothly, has access to a browser, and includes an app store. Any recommendations?

I think experimenting with a few distros might be your best bet. I've had success with various Linux versions on Dell laptops. For installation, using an Ethernet connection is often easier for ensuring wireless drivers are installed without hassle. Ubuntu and Mint are popular options. Most distros include Firefox and access to app repositories right out of the box.
You should definitely check out Linux Mint with the XFCE desktop environment. It's super user-friendly, especially if you're coming from Windows, and it's pretty lightweight too!
Drivers shouldn't be an issue with that hardware. Honestly, pretty much any distro should work fine. Based on your needs, I'd recommend Linux Mint. It comes with a full desktop environment, Firefox, LibreOffice, and a GUI for managing updates and software installations.
So, do the necessary drivers automatically download during the OS installation? Or should I prepare to hunt them down online? I've only used Windows before!
