Hey everyone, I'm looking for some guidance. My son, who is 7 and has mild autism, has shown a growing interest in Linux and computers. As a Debian user myself, I'm thrilled about this! I have an old laptop that I'd like to give him to explore and learn on. Can anyone recommend a good Linux distribution for beginners? Bonus points if it's Debian-based!

MX Linux with the Xfce desktop is another excellent option! It’s also Debian-based and is known for its simplicity and performance. Definitely worth a try!
Have you considered Zorin OS Education? It's designed for younger users and education in mind. It could be a good fit for your son!
Linux Mint, specifically the LMDE version, would work really well for him. It’s user-friendly and keeps the spirit of Debian alive!
Linux Mint is a great starting point for beginners. If you're looking for something that's easy to use, Mint offers a friendly environment. You can also try using a Knoppix Live USB stick, which lets him play around without saving anything permanently, and it works well on most x64 machines. That way, he can explore without worrying about breaking anything!
Mint could be a great choice, but I personally didn’t click with the Cinnamon desktop. If it had a Gnome or KDE option, I’d be all in for that!
Thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely check it out.
