Best Places to Buy a Domain Name and Transfer Tips

Hey everyone! I'm looking to update my portfolio website. I've been using Ghandi for my domain, and they want $40 for my renewal, which seems a bit steep. I've heard some people suggest other options. I'm considering services like Squarespace, but I've read some mixed reviews about them, and I've also seen good things about Porkbun.

I have a couple of questions: 1. What do you think is the best site to purchase a domain, especially since mine is just used for hosting my art portfolio? 2. What's the best way to transfer my domain from Ghandi to another service? Should I cancel with Ghandi, or can I let it expire and grab it elsewhere? I have less than 30 days left, so I'm looking for the best strategy. Thanks for any advice!

There really isn't a single 'best' registrar, but you should definitely check out options like Porkbun and Spaceship, which are both well-reviewed. If you choose to transfer, follow the instructions from Ghandi's site to unlock your domain and initiate the transfer. Just know that Squarespace can be a bit slow in providing that EPP code you need to transfer, so keep that in mind.
Also, Cloudflare is a great budget option with free hosting but do note they require you to use their Nameservers, which might complicate things depending on how your current site is set up.

I actually disagree. It’s hard to beat Cloudflare’s pricing and services!

When you transfer your domain, you'll actually save some money because you'll get an extra year added to your registration. So you're not losing that time you paid Ghandi for! Just make sure to unlock your domain and get your Authorization/EPP code from Ghandi first.

I recently bought my domain through Porkbun and I'm really satisfied with it. I do have one on Squarespace from when it was a Google Domain, and I've had no major issues with that either, to be honest.

Definitely go for Cloudflare! They have the lowest prices around, and they’ll even host it for free or work as a proxy for your site without any costs.
