Best Tips for Dual Booting Linux and Windows

Hey everyone! I'm looking to dual boot Linux and Windows on my new laptop. I've installed Zorin OS before but ended up switching back to Windows due to storage issues. Now, with a better laptop that has more storage and specs, I'm ready to give it another shot! I do programming (mainly machine learning on Google Colab and some web development with VS Code), photo editing in Darktable, and use my laptop for everyday browsing. I also want to dual boot because I do some casual gaming and school work, plus having Windows available is a bonus. I'd appreciate any Linux distro suggestions and tips for installation and general use as I've never attempted dual booting before. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Before you start, it’s important to know if Windows is already installed on your device. Typically, you should install Windows first, then partition your disk space for Linux (just leave that space unallocated for now). I’d recommend avoiding the Preview Feature Insider updates for Windows because they can sometimes wipe out Linux from the boot options. Trust me, avoid that headache! If you need more detailed steps, I can definitely provide those once we confirm the setup.
