Best Tool for Flashing Windows ISO on Linux: Ventoy, Balena Etcher, or WoeUSB?

I'm trying to flash a Windows ISO to a USB drive using Linux. I'm facing some issues with a drive connected to a possibly failing Intel Optane, and I need to boot into Windows without risking any data loss. I've heard about Balena Etcher, which suggested using WoeUSB, but I've read that WoeUSB has been abandoned for the last few years. I've also come across Ventoy, which seems to be a viable option, but I'm a bit confused since it's primarily mentioned for booting multiple images from a single drive. Any recommendations on which tool to use and how to ensure it'll work without issues?

WoeUSB has been replaced with WoeUSB-NG, but be aware that neither option is actively developed anymore.

If your drive is an Optane, make sure it's set to AHCI mode in the firmware, or Linux won’t recognize it. Also, I have to stress that BalenaEtcher typically doesn't create a Windows USB that boots correctly on most systems. The best bet is to use a Windows PC with the official Microsoft media creation tool. If you stick with Ventoy, it can boot Windows ISOs just fine and allows you to have multiple ISOs on a single USB stick.

If you need a solid tool for this task, I'd always lean towards Rufus or Ventoy. Both have proven track records for creating bootable USB drives from Windows ISOs without the usual headaches.

I can't recommend WoeUSB-NG due to its lack of updates. Instead, I suggest Ventoy for flashing ISOs. Whenever I need to switch to Windows from any Linux distro, it does the job easily. Ventoy’s been reliable for me!

I've had good experiences with Ventoy! It's straightforward—prepare your USB stick, copy one or more ISO files onto it, and then you can choose which ISO to boot from. If the original Windows ISO doesn't suffice, you might want to consider using WinPE-based distributions like Sergei Strelec. It's a solid replacement for WoeUSB since it works without issues.
