Can I Connect a Battery to My Old Laptop Screen?

Hey everyone! I'm new to electronics and still learning English, so I hope this makes sense. I recently got a new laptop and want to use my old laptop as a portable second monitor. I noticed that most DIY tutorials show how to do this without connecting a battery, but I really need my second monitor to be battery-powered for my usage.

I found that the LCD Display Module from my old laptop comes with a built-in power input. So, I'm wondering: can I use this power input to connect a battery? If so, what precautions should I take? Are there any risks involved, like overheating? Thanks for your help!

No, I don't think connecting a battery to the screen is safe. There could be a lot of risks involved, and it's often better to use the intended equipment.

Connecting a battery to that input isn't a safe option. You could risk overheating or damaging the components you're working with.

Honestly, this is probably not a good idea overall. You can find purpose-built monitors for around $70, which is way less risky than modifying your old laptop screen.

I get that, but I live outside the US and can't spend that much. Can you explain why it's such a bad idea? I thought it was straightforward based on the tutorials I watched.

I suggest just getting a USB-C portable monitor instead. They're quite affordable, starting around $50. It could save you a lot of hassle!

I really want to try doing it myself! It seems more fun than just buying a monitor. But thanks for your input—maybe I will think about the battery installation again.
