Can I Get a Programming Job with an IT Degree and Online Courses?

I'm wondering if I can land a programming job with just my Information Technology bachelor's degree along with some online courses from platforms like Freecodecamp and the Odin Project. I have a solid background in SQL thanks to my previous job, but I'm unsure if I really need to consider going back to college. Would attending a community college online be a practical option?

It really depends on where you're located, but it's definitely possible to get a programming job with your background. Employers often value practical experience more than just degrees, so your previous SQL work can be a big plus. Many programming roles look at your ability to demonstrate skills through interviews and a solid portfolio rather than just your educational background. That said, the job market is pretty tough right now, so keep that in mind.

From my experience, it varies a lot by region and the specific job you're targeting. Companies tend to prioritize practical experience and references over formal education, especially for programming roles. If you can show that you have the skills and can perform well in interviews, you might not need a full degree. Still, the market is competitive, so it's worth considering how you can distinguish yourself, maybe with a strong portfolio or networking.
