Can I get a speaker for my TV that adjusts volume based on ambient noise like my AirPods?

I'm dealing with an HVAC intake near my TV that makes it hard to keep the volume steady during the summer months. I'm looking for a solution similar to what my AirPods do—where the volume automatically increases when there's more background noise. Is there a speaker out there that can do this?

I’m not sure if there’s a specific speaker that does that, but it shouldn’t be too hard to set up a small computer that monitors the ambient volume. You could use IR to change the TV's volume, which would help a lot. Just keep in mind that figuring out the ambient noise levels compared to the TV sound might be tough.

Yeah, that sounds challenging! Wouldn’t want them to interfere with each other.

You actually don't need a special type of speaker for this! I had a similar idea a while back. If you're comfortable with tech, you could set up a script in Python along with a microphone to monitor the ambient noise and adjust the volume accordingly. It's a bit tricky to set up, but it's a free way to achieve what you're looking for!

Do AirPods really do that? I've never heard about it before!

Yeah, the newer models of AirPods Pro have a feature called "Personalized Volume" that adjusts based on background noise.
