Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a jam and could really use your advice. My Windows account got hacked, and I lost access to the recovery info for my PC. I could reinstall Windows, but I'm not keen on giving any more money to a company that has caused me this hassle. Here's my situation: I'm not the most tech-savvy person out there, mainly gaming and a bit of web browsing. I have a sister who also plays games, and we were considering using a cracked version of Windows, but I'm really worried about malware. I want to explore Linux, but I genuinely feel overwhelmed by the idea of using commands and messing things up. Would a newbie like me be able to use Linux, and are there any distributions you would recommend that won't drive me crazy? Thanks!

Yeah, I think you can definitely give Linux a shot! If you're mainly browsing the web and doing some light tasks, Linux could work great for you. I'd suggest looking into user-friendly distributions like Linux Mint, which feels a lot like Windows and is pretty straightforward. It has a great GUI, so you won’t feel lost. Plus, you might want to check out Aurora too since it's designed to protect against user errors. They'll have a lot of what you need right off the bat!
You can definitely switch to Linux! Many people find it easier than they expect. The gaming side is getting better with tools like Proton on Steam for compatibility, too! I’d recommend starting with Linux Mint. It feels quite similar to Windows, which could help make the transition smoother. Just remember, everyone learns at their own pace, so take your time experimenting and figuring things out!
First off, I feel you on the hacking issue! If you're worried about reinstalling Windows, you might want to check out virtual machines. You can use VirtualBox to try out different Linux flavors without touching your main system. It might seem complicated, but starting there lets you explore without the risk of messing everything up. Plus, learning as you go is totally fine!
Just a heads up: if you're reinstalling Windows, make sure you've got everything backed up first. If your account is still linked to your PC, you should be able to recover your Windows key through your Microsoft account. But if you’re looking to jump into Linux, there are tons of online resources and distros to try out before committing. Distrosea is a fantastic site where you can test out different setups right from your browser!
Oh wow, I didn't know about Distrosea! That sounds really useful; I’ll definitely give it a shot.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll look into VirtualBox. It sounds like a good way to ease into it.
