Can I safely use third-party SATA cables for my HDD installation?

Hey everyone, when I got my PC, I accidentally tossed out my spare SATA cables, and now I need to buy new ones to set up an 8TB HDD. I'm concerned about the safety of using third-party cables because I've seen reviews where people have had their PCs fried. MSI doesn't sell their cables individually, which leaves me in a tough spot. I want to know: How can I find the exact SATA cables that work with my specific power supply and motherboard? Or are there reliable third-party alternatives? Should I just move to a USB-C external drive instead? I've read that cables from the HDD to the motherboard are generally safe, but it's the HDD to PSU connections that seem risky. I found out about CableMod, but their processing time is around 3-4 weeks. I'm leaning toward using an external drive instead at this point. Any thoughts?

You’re good to go with third-party SATA data cables! They’re generally universal. Just steer clear of mixing SATA power cables; those really need to be specific to your power supply model to avoid frying your hardware.

What about those custom cables from CableMod? Are they safe for power connections?
