I have a house in the countryside that lacks any wired internet connection, relying only on LTE from my phone. I've also got this vintage 70s stereo that has an aux input, and I'm looking to use AirPlay to stream music from my phone to it. I heard that the latest AirPort Express is a budget-friendly option for AirPlay 2, but I'm wondering if I can set it up without any Wi-Fi. Specifically, I want to know if I can allow anyone nearby to stream directly to it without joining or creating a network. My Apple TV has a setting for letting anyone connect, and I'm curious if the AirPort Express has something similar. Also, does AirPlay function even if the wireless features on the router are turned off? If AirPort Express isn't the right fit, what alternatives do I have?

You can set up the AirPort Express to create its own Wi-Fi network. Just connect your phone or computer to that network. The fact that this network has no internet won’t matter for AirPlay purposes!

But if I connect to that network without internet, my phone might start complaining about not having a connection.
