Can I Use My External Hard Drive to Create a Bootable Ubuntu Installer?

I'm new to Linux and don't have a USB flash drive, but I do have a 1TB external hard drive. I've partitioned it into two: one section is 920GB for my data, and the other is 8GB where I've extracted the ISO files for Ubuntu. Can I set up my external hard drive to boot Ubuntu on my main SSD? Right now, when I check the BIOS, only my original physical drive shows up.

Yeah, you can try using your external HDD, but I'd suggest getting a 16GB thumb drive instead. Using the wrong image writer can accidentally wipe your whole drive. Plus, it’s a good idea to keep your important data backed up somewhere else, just in case. USB thumb drives are pretty inexpensive these days, so it could save you some hassle!

It's definitely possible to use your external hard drive for this! However, you'd ideally want a dedicated USB drive for Linux, just in case you run into issues that need fixing with a live USB. Make sure the partition you're using for the installer is set up correctly to be recognized as a bootable device. Simply having the ISO files extracted usually isn't enough.
