Can someone really steal my IP address and commit cybercrimes with it?

I need some help here. There's this situation where my friend's coaching program claims they're tracking an individual who has leaked their material online. The problem is, my friend insists he hasn't done anything like that. He's confused and worried that someone has stolen his IP address. Is it even possible for someone to use my IP to commit cybercrimes?

Wait, what's 'his coaching'? Who are they? This whole situation seems a bit off. If they can't provide solid proof, then it's probably not worth worrying about.

Yeah, IPs do change often, and there's likely some miscommunication going on. Unless your friend shared his information with someone, it’s very unlikely a stranger can just take over his IP for illegal activities.

It definitely sounds like a scam. IP addresses can be public, but they cannot be easily stolen like that. If your friend hasn't done anything wrong, there's a good chance it's just a misunderstanding or someone trying to scare him. Ignoring it might be the best option.

Honestly, this just sounds like nonsense. There's no way someone can use an IP address to commit crimes. Your friend should probably just ignore those claims and not engage with the coaching group any further.
