I followed the procedure linked for managing hybrid Exchange recipients with the management tools last year and have been applying software updates as usual. However, after trying to apply the December software update, I received a notification about the end of support for Exchange 2019. It caught me off guard since I didn't realize this would impact us. It appears Microsoft believes anyone running on-prem Exchange is using the full version, prompting a migration to Exchange SE. We only use the Exchange Management Tools; is there a way for us to keep getting software updates for our EMT-only setup? Or are we forced to purchase Exchange SE to continue maintaining a patched instance? I know about Extended Security Updates, but that doesn't really solve the issue for us.

You can actually perform an in-place upgrade from Exchange 2019 to Exchange SE without losing access to the management tools, and it won't cost you a subscription. Since the last couple of versions have been code equivalent for hybrid management purposes, it should work seamlessly.

Oh, that's great to hear! So we can upgrade without the extra costs and continue using the tools. Thanks for clarifying!
