Choosing the Right Linux Distro for My Low-End Laptop

I'm on the hunt for a Linux distro for my low-end laptop that only has 4GB of RAM and an Intel i3 processor, without a dedicated GPU. I initially thought Linux Mint sounded great for everyday use, as I've heard it's user-friendly. However, a friend suggested I should opt for Debian instead, which seems more complex and less intuitive for me. With all the debates online, many people just say, "go with Ubuntu bro." I'm seeking clarity here because I want an OS that feels light and runs smoothly on my machine. Any recommendations or experiences would be appreciated!

Mint is actually based on Ubuntu, which itself is derived from Debian. The core difference lies in the user experience and package management. Mint has its own software repos and prefers not to include snaps by default, which many users dislike. They feature a more Windows-like interface with Cinnamon, whereas Ubuntu uses a different desktop environment. If you're worried about performance, Mint should perform quite well on your laptop. You can always swap desktop environments later if you want to experiment!

Thanks for breaking that down! I guess performance shouldn't be too different, and since I've heard mixed reviews about snaps, I'll give Mint a shot and see how it goes!
