I just finished 12th grade and I'm heading to engineering college, but I'm feeling a bit lost when it comes to choosing between Machine Learning (ML) and Data Science (DS). I know it might seem silly to ask, but I really want to focus and not be confused about my path. Can anyone help clarify this for me?

That sounds like a plan! Good luck with your college journey.
Maybe you could share your understanding of ML and DS? Sometimes it helps to verbalize what exactly is confusing you. I mean, I once googled a bunch of terms and got lost too!
It sounds like you’re trying to figure out the difference between data science and machine learning! Data science is mostly applied statistics and data analysis. It also involves a good understanding of databases. Machine learning, on the other hand, dives deeper into algorithms and artificial intelligence. They’re interconnected, but each has its unique focus.
I'm currently studying for my master's in AI and data science, but I did my undergrad in chemistry. From my experience, I’d suggest you focus on core computer science concepts first—things like frontend, backend, databases, and networking. Once you’ve got that foundation, you can explore ML and DS more practically. If you’re passionate about them, consider working on AI topics alongside your studies. Start with the basics in math and statistics, and then gradually move into more advanced areas. Hope this helps!
Yeah, I really did just Google it, and that’s where the confusion started!
