Could Browsing a Sketchy Site on My iPhone Have Led to Malware?

I was browsing a potentially sketchy website on my iPhone 16 with iOS 18.3.2, but I didn't download anything or grant any permissions—just went on the site and solved a CAPTCHA. About a week later, my bank account got locked, and I noticed a surprising increase of about 3GB in my cellular data usage. I have since updated to iOS 18.5 and restarted my device. I checked the website's URL against several scanners, including VirusTotal, and everything came back clean. Could this situation indicate spyware, or was it just a coincidence? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, it sounds like bad luck. That's frustrating, especially since the data spike happened a month later. Sometimes these things happen without any clear cause. Just keep an eye on it and ensure your phone's security settings are up to date.

Yeah, I’m really hoping it’s just a coincidence. The delay makes it so confusing though!

Have you contacted your bank about the account lock? They might have more information regarding any unusual activity. It could help clarify if it’s related to the website you visited or if it's just some bad luck on your part.

I called them, and they just said it was an online lock. I reset it, and since then, no issues have happened since early June. It was just after that when the data usage spiked.
