I bought this monitor just over a month ago, and since then, the power in my room has cut out about five times. This issue only started after I got the monitor. Is it possible that the monitor could be the cause of these power outages?

It's definitely not impossible! You should check how your monitor is powered. Does it use just a standard IEC cable, or is it connected with a power brick and barrel plug? If there's a short in the wiring, it could trip the breaker when you use it.
There are a few things to consider. First, check if your room has a 15 amp breaker and a 20 amp outlet. Sometimes the ratings don't match up, which can lead to issues. You might be drawing more power than your breaker can handle. To test, unplug the monitor and try plugging in something high-power, like a hair dryer or microwave. If the power stays on, then your monitor could be the problem.
But isn't it true that the outlet's power rating doesn't affect the breaker? Asking for clarity!
