Last night I started receiving an overwhelming number of strange coded text messages from my boyfriend's number. These messages looked like they contained script characters and symbols, with some being just a few lines long and others stretching to about a hundred lines. I was really freaked out and told him to stop sending them, which led me to block and report his number as a scam, but he was confused because he wasn't sending those messages. He was trying to send me a funny sticker through a website that combines stickers and emojis, which seems to have triggered this mess. Is there a chance his number got hacked? Even though I reported him, he can still call me. To be safe, I've asked him to get a new SIM and phone. This whole situation has me really uneasy! Oh, and can I share screenshots of the messages here?

If it helps, I’ve seen similar issues arise when people use weird apps. They send out messages that end up looking scrambled on other devices. A factory reset and changing passwords is smart! It can feel really invasive when something like this happens to your personal devices.
It sounds like the app he used to send stickers might be a bit sketchy. Based on what you've described, those random characters could be a result of your device not being able to read the format of the messages, rather than an actual hack. I'd recommend asking him not to use that app again. If he's worried about his device being compromised, a factory reset and changing passwords from another device is a solid move.
Yeah, I agree with TechSavvyNinja88. Those messages could just be from a compatibility issue. Just make sure he avoids using that app again to send you stuff. And if he’s feeling uneasy about his phone, a factory reset could clear things up. It's definitely unnerving to deal with unexpected messages like that.
